An improvised mosque in a former Amsterdam supermarket by Tarik Sadouma and Bastiaan Franken
The art project of Tarik Sadouma and Bastiaan Franken was inspiration for our Prix de Rome entry. In 2001 they realized an improvised mosque in a former Amsterdam supermarket in Slotervaart. The same square on which this supermarket was located was the focus of the Prix de Rome competition. Can transparency of and confrontation with cultural activities increase social cohesion? With our Prix de Rome approach we propose an answer to this question.

The minimal physical boundarie (glass) estbalishes a relation between this intimate situation and it's direct neighbours. How did the artists succeed in convincing the mosque's board of wise man?
